Switch

I love thee Blackberry... let me count the ways...

Ok fine. So I'm a Blackberry fanboy. What can I say... nothing beats using a Blackberry. Obviously... for me...

So anyways, today switched my white Z10 (I love the white, but it is quite a bitch to care for such a pure object) to a limited edition developer's version of the Z10 in red.

Only 12,000 units in the world - so yeah... I guess it's worth the switch even though the red is an STL 100-1 compared to my STL100-2 white Z10 (difference being STL100-1 is not 4G enabled).

Oh fuck it. It's the look that matters. Style over substance indeed.

Gelisah

Yeay! Another single out. Gelisah is Amir's third single. Yesterday, we took it to Muzik Muzik 28. Watch out for it, guys... and remember to vote!

Ada rezeki, sekali dengan the second single, Penghibur Jalanan - who knows... maybe we can make a double appearance at Muzik Muzik separuh akhir this year.

Nothing is impossible. Tanpamu proved that...

Frenemies

In almost two decades of being a journalist, and having covered almost every desk (including the political beat), I've been in and out of Government offices and minister's offices and such.

Today however was something special for me.

Despite everyone knowing I have almost an anti establishment stand on things when it comes to political views (since I believe that absolute power corrupts) - I'm proud to visit a 'friend' in his office yesterday.

He's been in office for a month plus now (and I finally get an invite to his office where he gets to show off the view) for an informal meeting with KJ. Being the same age as KJ, I do have much respect for him (though I'd rather not admit it).

Here's to you sir, the Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia.

Besties day out

My schedule these days is actually worse than before when I was working full time.

Now, in between running my own projects for my company, as well as taking care of Amir's career which is picking up momentum... and some other side projects, I rarely have time to chill.

Yesterday finally had time to catch up with my best friend, and little sister - Faz. Mulalah dengan sesi makan... accompanied by a friend of ours. Gitu!

Pas abih melantak and sesi borak, it was just the two of us jalan-jalan. Miss Thang who has been busy herself lately, decided to take in some shopping, so aku jadilah peneman yang setia as always.

And of course, knowing her... tempt wajib - Chanel.

Now, I'm one of those who can appreciate (though not necessarily afford) the finer things in life. And Chanel undoubtedly is one of my loved labels... but the prices... oh my.

This was one jacket I grabbed off the discount rack in the VIP room. Softest leather you can get... back-baring short length jacket. Gorgeous. Faz had to put it on for me of course, since obviously it was a ladies' jacket and all (plus I don't think they have it anywhere near my size).

Tengok harga rasa nak pitam... lepas diskaun berapa puluh peratus pun, cukup nak bayar separuh kereta. Matilah ko!

And that's why they call it window shopping. Because I'll only be looking from outside of one in stores like these.

After lepak session followed baby sis to the car temankan. Damn... someone left flowers - and a card. So romantic!!!

Hello Miri!

It was my first time in Miri. Nice, growing township

With only a few days to spare... and a busy schedule, I'd say this would be the most interesting thing about Miri I got to see.

Yes, this is The Grand Old Lady. or Oil Well No. 1 in Malaysia. Really a part of history.

The other interesting thing I saw (and remember I'm eccentric in things that excite me), was masa lawatan ke RTM Miri. Check out their monitor speakers in the studio. Old skool yo! And rummaged through some of their old sound equipments.

These relics have been preserved well! The speakers were even still in use. Dang... and I had the same pair growing up in the late 70s/early 80s (minus the bunga plastic).

O.M.G.

It's been a seriously tiring month.

In between regular work, of course I have Amir to take care of. For the month of May, it was packed with his shooting schedule for the musical comedy drama O.M.G. for TV3.

Shooting was so much fun, but tiring. Tapi dapatlah merasa keadaan macam-macam.

Shooting tengah hutan jadi santapan nyamuk, dalam panas kat hutan (sambil mereka shooting berendam dalam sungai yang sejuk nak mampus), tengah bandar sambil beribu orang jeling as they walk past...

Quite an experience. Rindu pula berlakon... but dah pernah merasa berapa kali sudah serik. Still... banyak kenangan dalam shooting dua minggu lebih.

Thanks Black, One dan Anas yang sekali main cast, and of course Akim, Ila dan Elfa. The crew led by Boboy was fun to be with always. Matilah gelak cam orang gila je memanjang...

Colours of Rangoli (or peroxide poisoning)

I rarely camwhore. I detest taking photos... because I know firstly, unlike most people - I realise I have one of those faces bet left unphotographed. Seriously... and secondly, it doesn't help that I'm not in the least bit photogenic, no matter how hard I try.

But I'll share this much. Bought some Manic Panic hair dye... this is a brand I've been familiar with since I was 14 or 15. Back then, only one or two shops in Kuala Lumpur carried limited stocks and  colours of it.

I remember getting an electric green one... and since I started doing DIY hair colour projects then... I thought.. hey why not.

Why not was because I ended up looking like the underside of a very unflattering rock, with moss and other shit with this dirty green that was left on my head. Most of which washed off within the next few days (which left me even more fucked up as the process went on).

Nowadays I still DIY my hair.. though it's more rare since I really don't have the time to get about it.

Since I found Manic Panic available online during a random shopaholic online stroll, the collection above is what I sent out for.

Oh and that's not blue (the bottle is... but it's actually turquoise). And here are the two colours I managed to get done (pink/red are my usual colours so no point sharing those).

Love them... definitely have to send out for some more...

Cak!

Lamanya rasa tak update blog. Sibuk pilihanraya, sibuk shooting, sibuk menyibukkan diri.

I really have no time to update my blog. Or maybe I do, but choose to spend it elsewhere.

I read a study that says, you can't focus on more than two social media networks at any point, due to the total obsession you would have to embrace the Internet day and night.

Already I spend so much time on Twitter, and trying to make myself use Facebook more often - so my blog has to suffer in return..

Still I will try... here and there to be more vigilant of abandoning my blog.

Banyak rasanya nak kongsi... soal kerja, soal peribadi... sebab ni lah satu-satunya tempat aku dapat meluahkan perasaan tanpa pikir akan membosankan orang ke tak. Kalau bosan tutup je... heh!

Nanti lah. Some things happening over the next couple of weeks that will determine how 2013 and beyond will go. Hoping for some good news.

Twitter's 'new' policy

Some people were asking me about a new rule on Twitter. Supposedly if you tweet a verified account, they can't see it unless the person follows you.

I laughed inside, knowing that with no official announcement for Twitter, it was some idiot trolling or pulling a fast one.

So some dumb bitch got massive attention because they spent their time asking people to retweet something that was not true. How could you ever assume a new policy by Twitter because there was possibly a bug?

Or maybe it was just someone upset that a celebrity wasn't following them, and didn't reply their tweet.

To cut a long story short - are people really that stupid to NOT look for the source of stories like that and wonder why there's no OFFICIAL word?

Sheesh. Come on people. It's 2013. Get with the program!

...or perhaps you believe in the tooth fairy too.

Here's Twitter's OFFICIAL word on the situation.

Happy now?

Congratulations. You got trolled.

Blackberry history

I'm so happy today, it's worth a blog entry. Aku selalu minat kumpul benda-benda yang pelik. One of my obsessions I've blogged about obviously are toys (specifically from the cult hit M.A.S.K.) from the 80s. There's also Gucci - but since I'm not exactly swimming in money, that 'hobby' is a little harder.

Another love of mine - of course, is Blackberry.

My first phone was Motorola. And I was stuck on it for years. I tried almost every model that came out - managing to get my hands on the latest. And then - I discovered Nokia. Motorola stopped innovating - and Nokia was top dog. There were occasional flirtations with other brands like Siemens, Alcatel... etc.

My last Nokia was the N95 - and then I discovered Blackberry with my Blackberry Bold 9700.

Needless to say - even though I started a little bit late, I've been hooked on Blackberry since. No matter what anyone said about it - I loved it, because it works for me. Fuck apps and shit. Who needs 800,000 apps on a phone that lasts only 4-6 hours (clue : iPhone)

So up to now, I've had the 9700, 9780 (sold), 9900 - and of course the Playbook and the Porsche Design P'9981 apart from my latest in the Z10. It's sad of course that my P'9981 got its screen broken 0 so that's RM6,400 down the drain. It still works, but the touch function doesn't work.

Blackberry Malaysia and Singapore tried calling around but they can't find a replacement. So it's just part of my collection now.

For the last two weeks, I've been happy over my Z10.

And of course, I'm waiting for the next release in the Q10 - I've always loved the Qwerty function more. But I'm definitely holding on to my Z10 - it is the BEST smartphone in the market - and even if you hate the Blackberry - you MUST check it out. Screw Androids and iPhones. It doesn't even come close.

Today however - after two weeks (12 days exactly since a friend sent it from the States), I received a package. I've been waiting for it, worried that it may get lost, misdirected and so on. You know the postal service...

But surprising that past 7pm today, there was a delivery!

Guess what it is!!!!

Want to know what it is? Here's it is. TAA-DAA!!!!

And now a little history lesson. Beginning from the bottom photo.

This is the RIM - Blackberry 957 released in 2000. It's one of the earliest models of Blackberry handheld devices. Blackberry began with the Inter@ctive Pager - and moved on to PDAs. The first four models were the 850 - then on to the 857, 950 and 957. So this is a little piece of history in my hands.

Next, RIM released the monochrome Java based series - the 5000 and 6000s series. This is the Blackberry 6750 - among the first of Blackberry's smartphones. This was released in 2002.

And then Blackberry began releasing its first batch of colour series phones - 7200, 7500 and 7700. This is one of the earliest models - the Blackberry 7230 released in 2003.

And last but not least, this is the Blackberry 7730 - the last of the series before the current crop of Bold, Curve, Storm, Torch and Tour after the 8800 lot.

I am EXTREMELY proud to have one of the healthiest collections of Blackberry history in Malaysia. All of these Blackberrys - if I'm not mistaken were never released in Malaysia. We started with the 8*** series.

And just a little extra - as you can see in the photos, the 7730 works fine - as I managed to get a charger for it since it uses the old charger yang kepala besar sikit ala ala yang Bold 9000 nya.

The funny thing was that masa member kat US snapped a photo of it, he had the phone on. And despite it being in the box for TWO weeks - the phone was STILL on when I opened the box and it had 10% battery left! Awesome!

The rest I'm not sure if they work, but they should be. Just need to find the chargers for it.

And that - is the little happiness that I have to share with for today. Joy!

I love Blackberry!

Tanpamu - official!

It took some time but my kid, Amir Jahari finally has an official music video out for Tanpamu, which of course made Anugerah Juara Lagu 27 earlier this year.

Thanks so much to OhBulan.com for their backing for this video and the Phuture Phlow family for their great effort.

The video was directed by award-winning music video director Kroll Azry who is behind some splendid works from Butterfingers, Altimet, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza, Yuna and Qi and more.

Enjoy it, if you like it, LIKE it ok on Youtube...and spread the word. The next music video is coming out VERY soon!

Thank you everyone

It took me a little time to write this.

Somehow... I didn't want to say anything about this, but I know I have a lot of people to thank for #OpsBunga.

What started as a small idea by me out of frustration over the politicking in Sabah, amidst the death and fear... became something that was talked about not only in Malaysia, but in other parts of the world.

The idea was simple. To lay flowers, and to say a prayer. The reasons behind #OpsBunga were clear (click #OpsBunga anywhere and read if you haven't).

And yet, Twitterjaya - the Malaysian Twitter community, as well as the Malaysian blogesphere and online community went full force to promote the event.

I'm touched that so many total strangers, bonded over the simple call for peace.

What surprised me even more was the attention the media gave to us.

Thank you everyone... and all I can say is - at least we proved that social media CAN make a change. I got some hate from a few parties for doing this - from people saying it was a stupid idea to being called a hippie.

Well, I guess I'd rather be a hippie any day than a keyboard warrior.

I don't want to say much more apart - since the attention shouldn't be on me, but a big hearty THANK YOU to Malaysians on Facebook, blogs, Twitter (especially Twitterjaya) for the support for #OpsBunga - we proved we can do something, and that we do have a voice.

May this voice, however small, echo through this troubled times and bring forth a new belief, that peace can exist.

Imagine all the people... living in harmony.

I dream of Z... 10!

Haven't had the time of late to blog so much. Tweeting as usual dominates my life, sehingga tak ada masa nak betul-betul duduk nak update. Walaupun tak panjang punya entry pun - blogging sesungguhnya lebih memakan masa nak buat. Tapi kerana blog ni juga lah ramai mula kenal siapa aku, so sayang gap nak abaikan sampai bersawang.

Anyway, for the last couple of days, I got my new 'toy'. Something I've been waiting for over a year now. It's the Blackberry 10 - Z10!

Oh my... what can I say. I'm in love with it. Blackberry haters can say what they want, but put the Z10 to a test against the iPhone or any Android - the Z10 kicks major ass!

In every, single way. You've probably read of all the features, but honestly, nothing beats giving it a go for real!

Earlier tonight was the launch of the Z10 which begins sale in Malaysia from tomorrow, so while everyone was clamouring over it at the event, I was showing off my white Z10!

The launch at Marini's on 57 0 on the 57th floor of the Petronas Tower 3 was mind blowing. Check out the view - taken of course with my Z10.

If you're thinking of getting a new phone - seriously try the Z10. I won't hard sell it to anyone, because I seriously say you have to try it for yourself to realize how amazing it is and how it's really redesigned from any Blackberry you may have known.

And to answer the age old question...

I've been one of the few online friends of Blackberry in Malaysia (they don't pay me, but they recognize I'm a loyal fan of the brand) - but with Blackberry 10 - I've gotten another status from Blackberry Malaysia - I'm one of the Blackberry Elites - a small group of hardcore, Blackberry fans cum 'experts'.

Expert indeed. *giggles* - but yeah... I guess I do know my Blackberry. It took me all of 2 minutes to master the Z10 - without needing manuals or tutorials.

Ok... time to sign off. Wanna play some more with my Z10.

Wall of heroes

These are the eight, brave, heroic men who have been killed in defending our country from the bogus Sultan and his bunch of barbaric bastards.

The two on the lower row died in Lahad Datu, and the six were killed in Semporna.

These men will not have died in vain. We celebrate their name, and cry the tears shared with their families and loved ones in their passing.

Semoga mereka semua ditempatkan dikalangan mereka yang beriman.

May God bless their souls.

Am seriously messed up right now thinking how in this day and age, some people can still justify such barbaric actions to storm the homes of others and think they're in a lawless land to demand what they want out of greed.

The Kirams can haul their asses back to wherever they came from. You do not belong in Sabah. Sabah will never belong to you.

Whatever claims you have - if you had even an iota of a chance - you would have gone to the International Court of Justice instead of turning your back on the elected governments of two countries in your desperate greed!

Praise the Lord that Philippine President Benigno Aquino and Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and their respective governments have come out in condemnation of this stupidity.

Am just so angry those barbarians are saying it's about pride and it's a do or die situation.

As mush as I hate violence, maybe death is the best option if they really think that way.

Sabah belongs to the people. And the people don't want them. They are part of Malaysia.

WE are Malaysia.

Period.

May God protect us.

Sabah in prayer

I want to update my blog. But right now... I can't say anything. I can't feel anything. So sad over the situation in Sabah.

Up to this moment - seven have been confirmed dead. Two in Lahad Datu, five more in Semporna. And they were all part of the security forces protecting our country.

Can't say anything more, receiving constant updates from friends there, including civilians, police and media.

God protect Sabah.
