Showdown and the other Lee

Since I'm backdating significant events that happened throughout 2011 before I can move on with the rest of my blogging activities, here's one that I want to put in my blog and remember for the longest time to come.

I've met several American Idols. Ok, not several. Just Kelly Clarkson (twice, got to even chill with her in a club in Singapore way back when she just won and met her briefly for a concert in Kuala Lumpur) and also Kris Allen (whom strangely enough I noticed from the auditions itself.

One Idol I do like a lot is Lee DeWyze. From the get go, I knew he would do well, or at least I hoped he would. And finally, I got to meet him. He's an awesome dude.

He was so cool and we got to talk a bit. I love the way he talks about his music, and you could just tell he was straight up and honest about so much. Obviously, Hollywood hasn't gotten to him because his facial expressions revealed whenever he felt uncomfortable, or uneasy.

But even better than meeting him was getting to see him perform live - TWICE. And the best song from him (though I love all his songs), was his rendition of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah!

Seriously meremang bulu roma. Few can just hold a guitar and sing, and still evoke a whole landscape of emotions, and it's definitely no wonder he won American Idol.

Apart from the show at Astro in Studio 1, I also got to catch him live at Subang Parade where he performed for fans and had a meet and greet.

Meeting such an honest singer-songwriter is always a wonder. And it was definitely one of the highlights of 2011 to meet Lee.

One of the best things to happen also this year, was Showdown 2011. Why?

Well, last year, members of the Funky Fresh Family dominated the top three for Showdown with Wakaka and Floor Fever placing first and third. This year, four more members of the family entered Showdown - namely Elecoldxhot, Rokusteps, Bounce Steppers and also HMC Phlow.

But best of all - this year, with so many of my family members in the show, I was also called as a guest judge alongside Maple Loo and Joe Flizzow. Many asked what dance background I had to qualify me - but I judged based on performance and visual value with a little on technical and styles which is something I do know about having used dance for acts I've managed sebelum ni.

It was definitely fun. And ironic too. Since I was a member of production and faculty of Akademi Fantasia 9 which ran in tandem with Showdown 2011, it was kind of fun to be called to judge another show on another station.

Especially since my fellow teacher in the Akademi too, in Ning, was a judge the week before me.

Definitely something I will remember.

Shout!

Damn! I slept at only 6am this morning, and bangun kol 5 petang! Amik ko! Sebelas jam hibernasi!

Semalam gi Shout!. Erm... it was ok. Too loud - and no, I'm not too old. I've been to all the MTV Awards (except the last one) and survived concerts like Avril and Slipknot, and even Westlife, so I doubt I'm past screaming crowds or audio systems pumping inhuman levels of sound.

But ada je yag tak kena. It was good, and also bad. How do you describe it... Just definitely not worth having to go through the jam with the Manchester United training going on next door.

It's like a great performance for Jac, baru nak emo in rememberance of Michael, and then you had Reefa bounce out disrupting the whole feel of things. Like... WTF???!!!

It was like everyone buying into the hype of Bunkface (respect to them - idop budak Klang... orang kampung aku tuh!) but turning zombified masa Estranged put on one of the best performances of the night.

Basically - a potentially good event, but riddled with many WTF moments.

Pesawat were the real hit of the night, but kenapa la ada orang lonjat lonjat jerit jerit sebelom tuh. Tak perlu sangat!

Tak bother sangat. In fact, caught the show, while spending a lot of time with Gaya, Afdlin and Mamat Khalid and their wives apart from other friends who were left blurred out by a lot of what went on that night.

In fact had more fun when Upin and Ipin menang award... boleh? One of the highlights for sure?

Sean Kingston? Overrated, oversweaty, overmiming and just plain overweight. Period. Nyanyi pon tak setakat YEAHHH YEAHHH and uhmmm... and one or two more lines on top of the CD. Bosan nak mampos! So much for the closing act.

Sapa agik yang ok ek. The performers worthy of a mention were Bunkface, Nikki (though Shila was a WTF moment), One Buck Short, Joe Flizzow.. and a few more. Caprice and a few others would do good to learn how not to just randomly shout into a mic. Oh well...

The crowd? Let's not even go there.

Layan je la pics. By the way, if you guys dulu ada baca pasal these Chanel gun heels I so loved (and convinced Faz to get them, here she is wearing them to the first public event in Malaysia they've been seen in. Don't know if she's the first person in the country to have these shoes, but berani cakap she is the first to have them in all three colours, epecially these black and whites.

Heel-ing power

Ngan adik dia Jojo.

Aku bangga kata dia the first int he country to wear these black and white Lagerfeld creations. READ HERE n my posting in January masa aku naik gila pasal kasut nih. And here's Madonna wearing her end of last year.

By the way, the ones Faz are wearing are the limited edition ones, unlike the more common black and silver versions.

Ok, now on to the rest of the pics.

The Chong family - no Vince but with younger bro

Datuk Sheila Majid

Yellow fever! Nikki after performance

Hot chicks Faz and Marsha

The Pesawat boys were so in demand last night - motif AirAsia punya topi? Part time job ke sebenarnya? Matilah!

Cheryl looking sweet

Shidi bak beg tuh sesuatuh sangat!

Sebenarnya pegang beg bini tuh

Joe's got Flava

The Estranged family

And the last picture I have is this. When you take a look at it, just tell me, what the hell is wrong with this picture??!!!

Yes, that's Jehan. In a hat that defies all logic or reason for being worn. Doubt his bad hair day could have been that bad sampai pakai camtuh.

Oh well... ok la... nak sambung hibernasi. Flu getting better now...

PS - Thanks Muckcheek @ Yasmin for the serunding. Sweetest birthday present I've had in a longtime. Tak penah orang Poslaju aku serunding within a day before. And the card from you and the rest of the family was such a beautiful thought too. Hugs to all of you for it!

PPS - Dapat berita dari Syuib on the World Championship of Performing Arts in Los Angeles. Malaysians masih teruskan saingan dalam final. Dilla, Wilson and Iza made it to the finals of all the modelling categories, while Artistana Group made it to the finals of the dance category.

In vocals, Bob, Sarah Raisuddin, Hasmidar made it into one solo, and two duet categories for the finals. More info as news comes in. Malaysia boleh! KEPITA boleh! Heh!

Nintendo Wii!

So how did the Gatsby event go? Guess who has a spanking, brand new Nintendo Wii!!!If that wasn't enough, the prize I won also came with the Wii Fit! (Click both items to get a description of what they are - malas nak explain)
Altogether the prize is worth almost RM2,000 sebab ngan game semua skali. Matilah!!! Aku da so hooked on the Internet takde masa tuk nak layan Astro sangat pun.
Ni lak ada gaming console ni matilah aku nak cari masa pakai. But I love it! I love it simply cause the last gaming console any sort I had was an Atari in the Eighties (matilah ramai tatau Atari tuh apa pun kan!).
Never been a big fan of games, tapi skali kalao duduk, melayan la gak. So yeay! My freakish paddle pop coloured mohawk won! Second big prize of the year pas arituh menang Nokia N958gb. Tak sabar when the next event offering something yummy will be. I'm on a roll!

It's mine!!! I won it!!!

Have to say, I kind of love the press kit they handed out. Check out the pen drive thingamajig they gave. Sebijik cam a container of Gatsby nya wax. Damn cute ok!

Anyway, the event itself was great cause Joe Flizzow and Popshuvit performed. Joe was backed by Cesar on the decks which made it all the more wow. Caught up with Joe. His album will be out in November. Hurrah for that. And dig this, it will be featuring KRS 1. never mind if you don't know who he is. He is just one badass legendary rapper.

But if you guys are still wondering what was the actual event launched, it was for the Gatsby Styling Dance Contest (no, I have not been paid to promote them, nor do I do it cause I got the Wii)

It's a cool event cause, basically, all you have to do it upload a minute long video of you, dancing, while styling your hair. Winner eventually goes to Shibuya, Japan (one of the great fashion capitals in the land of the rising sun apart from Harajuku) and compete among winners of si other countries.

CLICK HERE for more info. Meanwhile, aku nak gi plug in my Wii and give it a try.

PS - Just found out the Wii Fit siap leh exercise skali. Matilah!

Here's to 2008!

Again... happy new year... and happy 2008 to all of you. Before I ramble on and on - here are some pics yang aku amik masa kat KLCC. This was the fireworks show at the stroke of midnight and the first 10 minutes or so. Hope you guys like it.

Take time and wait for the pictures to load - because this time there are A LOT of pictures I have to share. Yeap.. I went psycho shooting pics, so enjoy them ok.

Just make sure your Internet line is not crap, because kalau korang tak nampak the pics, can't help you guys.

The amazing sight of KLCC framed in fireworks as we entered 2008.

Backtracking, masa sampai KLCC terkejut lak jam takde. But since it was only 7.30pm, memang tak teruk pun kesesakan time tuh. Stupidly, I parked in KLCC instead of the nearby parking are dekat the show venue near Exxon Mobil. That's what getting shocked will do for you.

Bumped into Ezlynn and Adam dropping by to jalan jalan and watch the show. Shah, laki Liza Hanim yang perfomed, pun ada playing daddy ngan anak meka.

Went to the VIP marquee and was amazed by the sight of things. It didn't look like it was in a bloody tent. Cantik siot. Classy and extravagant. Siap ada chandelier pelbagai. And the food? Yummy! Trust Petronas to be the best host in town when it comes to organising events like this.

Simply grandiose!

And when the show started, I headed right in front of the stage to enjoy the performances. I didn't take all the performances - tapi ni yang mana aku sempat. The others I was preoccupied because it was probably not worth my time to layan. Apapon - you guys probably caught it on TV... so takyah wat ulasan. And if you guys didn't catch it - then takyah la kan. It was a New Year concert... so takyah la ek review. Just enjoy the pics.

Please remember - kalao korang suka these pics - you can use them anywhere - BUT - please credit me, where you got them AND link my blog please.

Make it worth my while to take time to shoot these pics, upload and link them. Hormat la ek sikit usaha aku. Jangan cam sparuh orang aku tau diluar sana yang ngaku pics ni meka punya lak... cam kesial....

Aku stakat ni tak nak watermark the pics tapi kalao benda ni berterusan sooner or later, I'll have to.

Now - on to the pics.

The opening cultural fusion show.

Search in action.

Amy... rockin' wo!!!

Rock legend for sure lah.

Noraniza Idris - walaupun kena perli slalu bak rombongan, her show memang best.

Joe Flizzow brought on his posse for a touch of hip hop.

Joe and his posse threw their KL brand caps to the audience. I think there were about eight, and Nafi got one sebab kami beramai ramai dok depan and it just landed near our feet.

Imran Ajmain was on too... and also dueted with Francesca Peters before she went solo.

Do I hear you guys kutuk my hair?

Alien vs Predator promo tour.

Masa dia baru nak start nyanyi - it started raining. Kebetulan lak - Fran was singing... erm... Umbrella. Pas meka abih, orang mintak meka campak payung lak sebab ujan.

And after Fran sang... ella.. ella.. ella.. who else came on but... Ella.

Joe Wings backed her up. Goreng!!!

Ning enjoyed herself big time leading up to the countdown.

Esther Khoo in the scariest outfit of the night. Boots??? Or galoshes!

The group finale.

Jojie and Ella ham it up for the camera.

Vernon being weird and Fran having the same reaction to him, as everyone else to her hair.Amused...

On the way to KLCC I spotted a nativity scene outside a building in front of KLCC. Memula aku ingat I had spotted wrong, so on the way back from Impiana Hotel, to KLCC after taking a ride from the artistes' bus to get out of the concert venue.. I went to look for it. And it was indeed a nativity scene.

This was outside The Ascott and Kirana. This is the simplest, but most meaningful Christmas decor I've ever seen anywhere in Kuala Lumpur.

It was touching that Christmas be remembered for what it is.

And the last pic for today was taken masa on the way nak ke KL. It wasn't grammatically wrong.. or at least I think so. But it just sounded so wrong.

Come Inside And Treat Yourself - sounds like a self-service invitation.

Would have sounded nicer to say Come Inside and Have A Treat or something. Dunno... it just caught my eye and thought wanted to put it here.

Ok lah guys.. hope the pics amused you. Be back with another entry soon. Oh by the way, I promised you guys a new layout for my blog, kan? That's coming soon. Still tweaking the look because I want it to be permanent... so pada meka yang tak gemar layout ni... sabar ek.

Happy holidays people!
